The season couldn't have begun any better for Arch, who raced to an impeccable paid maximum in
Newcastle Gems opening fixture of the season, the first leg of the junior Tyne Tees Trophy away
from home against their fierce local rivals, the Redcar Cubs.
After following home race partner Danny Smith in heats two and four he took the chequered flag in
the final heat to seal a victorious start to the Gems 2019 campaign.
PLEASE NOTE: The report below was compiled by
the Cubs team manager and obviously portrays things from a Redcar perspective!
Despite their best efforts a much-changed 2019 Redcar 'Erimus' Cubs were unable to get their season underway with a
victory, eventually falling to a 15:20 home defeat in the first leg of their Tyne-Tees Trophy encounter against local
rivals, the Newcastle Gems.
Cubs boss Gavin Parr was delighted with how his boys gave their all and went down fighting, "A great NJL Tyne Tees
Trophy meeting at the Media Prima Arena saw local rivals Newcastle come out on top against the Erimus Insurance Cubs."
The first running saw of heat one saw Dicken go through the tapes, but in the re-run Kelly made a dream start to his
500cc debut with a tapes to flag victory over a pressing Embleton. Dicken took third as Davies pulls up with engine failure."
"The visitors never looked troubled in heat two, and led from the gate, never looking troubled whilst Gill and Goldsbrough
had their own little battle for the minor point."
"The third race featured one of the best adverts seen for NJL for a long while. Dicken and Kelly gated and led Embleton,
who gave chase for two laps before passing Kelly up the inside coming out of bend four.
Embleton then chases down Dicken but Dicken holds on for a great win. Kelly, although finishing third, certainly played his part
in a great race."
"It was again the Gems who made the dream start in heat for and never look back. Smith looking a class act tonight and
certainly looks at home around the Media Prima Arena. Cubs take minor placings with Goldsbrough looking a lot quicker this time
"The penultimate race of the meeting was another closely contested affair. Dicken made the start with Embleton second and
Kelly third. Embleton passed Dicken with a great move around the outside this time and goes on to record his first race victory."
"The meeting's concluding heat saw Smith stall it at the gate and the Cubs duo set off after Freeman. Gill suffered a
puncture which left Goldsbrough to chase hard after Freeman."
"A great meeting raced in a fantastic spirit."
